Tuesday, March 25. 2008Half Eighth Cousin Twice Removed
That is the relationship of myself and Paula, a distant cousin who has been exchanging e-mails with me since Jan 15, 2008. In Paulas' original e-mail to me she said:
I’m not sure where to start here. I found your site [genealogy.sardeson.org] when I typed in ‘Joan Hodgkin, Calverton’, a name that was given to me by a distant cousin who has been doing a family tree for over 30 years. I was put in touch with this lady quite by chance, anyway getting to my point, your information is exactly the same as mine only the surname is different. The name I have is spelled ‘Sargeson’. Apparently Henry/Henrie Sardeson/Sargeson is my ancestor. I know we have found Sardeson spelled Sardison and it has been suspected that Sardeson and Saregeson could also be from the same origins. After seeing the details of the work there is no doubt the ancestors that Paula and I have with the same Given Names, date and place of birth, death, and marriages, are indeed the same people. Here is a chart to show the relationship and our common ancestor (spelling to be verified!). Sunday, March 23. 2008On-Line Genealogy Refreshed
I have received several updates from Eric Sardeson Clark (third cousin once removed), Jenny Sardeson-Ziegenbein (fourth cousin once removed), and Nancy Sardeson-Hall (fourth cousin). I have posted a updated database on-line at genealogy.sardeson.org. As always updates are very appreciated.
Stay tuned for information on how Sardeson and Sargeson surnames are linked! Sunday, March 23. 2008

My 3rd cousin once removed Eric Sardeson Clark has sent me some new photos that are worth posting. Here is what Eric wrote me:
Dear Curtis, Thank you Eric for sharing these photos and the good suggestion for tracking down Cornelius. Eric I'm also checking on that photo the late John H Sardeson showed you. ![]() Jonathan Clark (1828-1902) ![]() Alice Sardeson (1828-1911) Sunday, March 23. 2008Cornelious Sardeson (1883-?)
This is a "reprint" of a post on our forum at forum.sardeson.org.
This person is one of my Sardeson genealogy projects. I'm trying to find out what really happened to Cornelious Sardeson. Did he fight in the Civil War for the South? Did he join a Circus? When did he die and where is he buried? Sunday, March 23. 2008Sarah Sardeson (1841-?)
Here is a "reprint" from our forum at forum.sardeson.org:
Here is another special project of mine to find out what happened to Friday, March 21. 2008Mary Penniston-Wright-Sardeson
I have received a request for more information about Mary Penniston who lived in Argyle WI and was married to my Second Great Grand Uncle James Sardeson (1830-1914). Mary Penniston was the second wife of James Sardeson and we have almost no information on Mary. We don't believe that James and Mary had any issue, however we have been wrong about that in the past.
If anyone can do a marriage search for Mary Penniston to a Wright or James Sardeson in the Lafayette Co, WI court house we would appreciate it. Jeffery and I are working on posting some more about his father here in a few days. So please check back later for more information. Thursday, August 23. 2007Desaray Sardeson

About 10 years ago my Father and I visited the Tower Mill in Barnack, LINCS, UK. The current owner allowed us to go into the old mill and walk to the top. He told us we needed to see the name of the Sardeson written on a beam at the top of the mill. We found the name, however I cannot find it in my notes! Does anyone know the name of the Sardeson who wrote his name at the top of this mill?
![]() Picture from an old postcard of Barnack Tower Mill in LINCS, UK I believe this was most likely Charles Sardeson REFN-38 (b. 7 Nov 1817, d. 1899). I have a note he was a miller briefly at Dyke and I know he died in Barnack. Saturday, August 18. 2007So How Far Back do we Go?
Currently the Sardeson genealogy goes back to my tenth great grandparents Henry Sardeson (d.1619) and Joan Hodgkynson (d.1617) who were married at Calverton, NOTTS, England in 1576. They had the following children:
Elizabeth Sardeson (1578 - 1616) William Sardeson (1583 - 1583) Robert Sardeson ( - 1629) John Sardeson (1584 - ) Alice Sardeson ( - ) We also know where Henry lived as a survey of Sherwood Forest in 1609 shows that Henry owned a strip of land in Calverton, NOTTS, England. Henry died in 1619 leaving a Will of Inventory of his Goods and Chattels, so we get a good picture of his way of life. He was a husbandman or small farmer farming his own land. His wife, Joan Hodgkynson, had died two years earlier in 1617. Of the three surviving children, Robert had married Alice Mantle of Gedling, NOTTS, England on 01-NOV-1614 and had, by then, two children, Anne, born 1615 and Randolph. Anne was left £1 by her grandfather and baby Randolph was left "foure strikes of malt". Son John who was married to Isabel Ashtonne in 1618 was left two bacon flitches, one black chest with its contents, eight score (160) of geese in the Forest (Sherwood Forest) one quarter of rye, one quarter of malt and "one heffer calfe of colloe browne". Johns children Robert, John, and Alice where made Executors of the estate and inherited a third of the residue of his estate. This will is the document that has helped our English Sardeson genealogists Saundra Lee-Sardeson to connect this oldest known Sardeson line to our lines. We also know the siblings (all Sisters) of Henry Sardeson and a little about them, however at this time we do not know Henrys' parents. Sources 1. Parish Registers of Calverton, NOTTS, England. 2. Please check the Discussion Forums for information on how to attend the 2008 Sardeson Cousin Reunion in Mandan, ND, USA from July 3-6, 2008. Thank you to Steve Sardeson for posting the information!
